An Accounting Authority is an entity that represent the vessel on behalf of the shipowner, for the accounting, administration and settlement of the radio traffic accounts of the vessels under contract.

These companies must have an authorization from the Administrations in which the vessels are flagged. For most states, vessels are required by law or by International Regulations to have an approved Accounting Authority.
